Dunkerley is an unusual but not rare surname. In my line of the family there has been an abundance of daughters and there are few boys to carry on the name. My wife's maiden name is Platau. Her Jewish father managed to escape from Germany before the second world war, whilst many of his family did not. She has one sister and the Platau name will be difficult to follow back.
